03/07/2020:
It was a fun day for all LVCA members that attended this event. Roy, Charles, Jerry and I set up at 6:00am. Thanks, Jerry, for the hot tea! Ken brought his family, frame-off restored 1967 Mercury Cougar. What a classic! Bob and Jan showed up with their Corvette show cars...check out the pics. Lanny drove his (Silver State Classic) Corvette race car that is featured below in the March 07, 2020 recap. Bill, Mel, John, Sandra, and other members talked with new prospective LVCA members. Benita and Diego greeted passerby's while Benita answered their questions. Afterwards, Lanny, Ken, and others drove to participate in the first LVCA 2020 Racers Edge drag racing event at the track. Thanks to everyone for making this another fantastic event.
Featured Car of Month Janet and Lanny Lowman - 2007 Corvette Z-06
We bought this car in the fall of 2008. I ordered this car new for a friend and serviced it for him his first and only year of ownership. When we bought it the odometer read 4200 or so miles, so it was practically new. I had previously raced with a 2005 C-6 in the Bonneville 100, Silver State Classic, Nevada Open Road Challenge, Big Bend Open Road Race, Sandhills Open Road Challenge, Mohave Mile and Mohave Magnum, Las Vegas Regional SCCA Auto Cross and the Drag Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway running with Racers Edge.
I am my own mechanic and have learned immensely from guys that shared their knowledge. Jim Gregorio, Ken Rees, Gil Nevarez, and Brent Bergron to name a few. Most outstanding accomplishments so far are: back to back wins in the 150mph class at two of the Silver State events, top speed (for me) at the Mojave Magnum with a 209.2 mph pass and Max Speed allowed award in the Magnum A-2 Class at 205.0 mph.
The car began its HP life with a 459 HP pass at its first Corvette Club Shootout at Shelby American Motorsports. The car has since been upgraded through several modifications from a stock LS7 motor to a 427 GM LSX Performance block that was prepared by Insane Power of Henderson. It has a Callies balanced rotating assembly, heads from Mast Motorsports, fuel system from Force Innovations, Headers from LG Motorsports, camshaft from Comp Cams, and F1C Supercharger from Pro Charger. Engine now makes a conservative 700 to 800 HP at
the rear wheels. It is detuned for longevity buy is entirely capable of the 1100 HP at the rear wheels with a good tune should the need arise.
I would like to publicly thank Ken Rees for being my friend when I really needed one while recovering from the C-word and for teaching me the "How To" of winning Open Road Races. Without his help I would still be in the "wondering just how you do it" category.
Thank You Ken Rees!
Our next LVCA event at the Car Show on Eastern is scheduled for Saturday, 04/04/2020. See you there!

02/08/2020:
We got a early 6:00am start for the February 8th Celebrity Car Show on Eastern. With the full moon in the background Roy, Lanny, Ken Rees and I started setting up for the day. It was another exciting event with over 20 plus corvettes from LVCA showing up to support our club and its membership. Everyone that participated in the show felt the pride of belonging to LVCA and being able to show off their corvettes during the event that runs from 7:00am to 10:00am.
This month our “featured ride” belongs to Roy and Lin who purchased their black 2008 Supercharged Calloway Corvette Z51 in the summer of 2009, its odometer read 1745 miles. They took it to LVCAs Dyno Days in December 2009 to see what its horsepower was, once on the dyno it was rated 513hp and 454 ft pounds of torque.
It has been run in several open road races, to include the Nevada Open Road Challenge, Bonneville 100, Big Ben Open Road Race, and the Silver State Classic Challenge. They have also participated in Mojave Mile and Mojave Challenges at the Mojave Air and Spaceport in Mojave, California. In 2012 the top speed on the Callaway was 188.5 mph, so being dissatisfied with the top speed Roy decided to add the following speed equipment:
- Pfadt Tri-Y Long Tube Headers that we’re ceramic coated.
- Smaller pulley to the supercharger.
- Methanol Injection System that kicks in at 80% throttle.
- ZRI Transmission.
All the enhancements enabled thenCallaway to be dyno’d at approximately 700hp with 604 rwhp. The enhancements helped Roy to attain speeds of 202.3 mph, 205.7 mph, and 200.3 mph at a couple of the Mojave Magnum events and he was inducted into their “200 mph” club.
One of the best highlights for Roy and Lin was being invited to the Callaway Cars West Grand Opening on August 4, 2012. Roy asked Peter (Reeves son) if he thought his father (Reeves) would autograph one of the fuel rail covers. They found Reeves, he was in a tuxedo and flip flops. As he approached their Callaway he told them that he was glad they were using their corvette for what it was designed for and offered to sell them a roll cage. After Reeves autographed the fuel rail cover, he immediately went inside the building to attend his wedding ceremony and marry Nicole Jones.
That’s a recap for this month and we will hope to see each of you next month at the Car Show on Eastern March 7, 2020. Remember...get there early so you can park with the rest of the LVCA members.

01/03/2020:
On Saturday morning January 3rd the LVCA restarted the tradition of meeting up at The Car Show on Eastern. Organized by our newest Director Rudy Blum, the brave showed up to set-up in the 36°F degree weather. The skies were clear and once the sun rose so did the temperature and the spirits.
A total of 24 members and 19 cars were in attendance. The camaraderie was incredible. Rudy brought several dozen donuts for us to enjoy whilst we got to relax and just enjoy all that was going on around us. At 8:00 there was absolute silence as the National Anthem was proudly sung. We got a chance to go around and see some of the other rides, (there were a total of 300 cars in attendance) that showed up. The variety of cars were amazing, hot rods, classics, customs, AC Cobras, Camaros, Mustangs, and of course Corvettes of all generations!
The Club will continue this event the Saturday before the general membership meeting each month, (check the events calendar). Get there at 6:45 for the best spots and stay as long as you like. The show generally starts the drive out at around 9:30.
Once again great job Rudy, thanks for organizing this event for us to enjoy.
